The Awakening of a Cell
Once upon a time there was a cell in
a human being. That cell was actually a skin cell. He was living his everyday
life, was doing his job and kept developing his self-identity based on his
observations and experiences. He was having a fairly good life but he never
felt happy with it. His dream was to become a brain cell. He had that kind of a
low self-esteem based on that inside voice kept telling him that “you are just
a skin cell” and he thought that becoming a brain cell would get him the
respect, recognition and happiness he always wanted to have.
He had spent his time focusing on this transformation but it just didn’t want to happen. He got depressed, lost and discouraged not only because he was unable to achieve his goal but also because he saw those other cells around him being content and happy with their life.
He just couldn’t understand why the failure and lack of success was happening to him. He was looking for the answer in his world around him but with no results.
He was so desperate when one day suddenly
just like a spark he got this intuition to look within himself for a solution.
So he had started this new practice of
calming down and turning off that continuously speaking inner voice and kept listening
if there was something else coming up.
He was surprised when he had begun noticing
a different kind of voice coming forward. It was a brand new and exciting
experience also including new thoughts, ideas, feelings and a much broader
perspective of life.
Eventually he had realized that
achieving happiness through becoming a brain cell was nothing but self-deception.
It was infeasible and unattainable. “How I couldn’t have this perspective
before” he wondered.
This new understanding had given him
energy and motivation and he started focusing on becoming himself and fulfill
his true potential as a skin cell.
Slowly but surely he was making a huge improvement and eventually he had turned himself into a brand new being with a brand new identity. He was proud of himself, felt grounded and was so happy. He enjoyed his existence first time ever and it felt so easy for him to do a great job as a skin cell.
So many of us live our lives with not fulfilling our true potential. Growing up and being influenced by our parents, relatives, teachers and society. We develop our identity and values based exclusively on the external world and not even aware or discount everything coming from within.
We are under the impression that in order to become successful and happy in life we have to follow the guidelines given us by our culture, institutions, media and people. It is so easy to get conditioned by the official sources since they are telling us the same everywhere and at all the time but also it is so confusing listening to people telling us who we should become or be since it does represent their own perspectives on the level of the individual.
We end up living our lives trying to conform, fit in and become something and somebody that has nothing to do with our true and authentic selves.
We wonder why life is hard and featured with rewards that deliver short lived happiness.
When we get to a point in our lives when
we are forced to stop for a moment and contemplate the given situation then
that could be the beginning of a new direction we will be taking.
This life turning event could be a major
loss or trauma as it is often called a Spiritual
Emergency or a gradual if not a sudden Awakening.
At this point we start looking for
answers for what has happened to us and consciously or unconsciously we begin
looking within us in this search.
The same thing happened to that skin
cell. Looking within eventually led him to become conscious, mindful and aware
of himself.
He was living his life under the
impression that all the other cells and everything else were separate beings just
like him but as his awakening journey progressed he was able to see a bigger
and bigger picture of reality.
He was so amazed looking at himself as
an Independent Observer and zooming
more and more out eventually allowed him to see the complete body of a human
being.
He realized that he was a part of
something much bigger and that bigger scale, the human body represented
wholeness, oneness and unity.
He was the human body and a human body
was him including every other cells and organs with no separation and
competition but togetherness and cooperation.
His purpose was to exist as a skin cell
at a specific place in the body at a specific time.
He was designed to be a perfect skin
cell. Therefore no matter how much effort he could have made he would never have
become a flawless brain cell.
Not only his life felt much harder going
to the wrong direction but also not fulfilling his purpose and doing a good job
as a skin cell was detrimental for the body as a whole.
Finally after realizing all of this he
got himself on the right track for giving his best as a skin cell. He felt
determination, motivation and happiness. It was much easier to do his duties this
way due to the significantly less obstacles he had encountered through time.
He felt so happy with his life and furthermore
felt so happy that he was able to contribute to the collective, the well-being
of that human body as a whole.
The feeling of separation we all encounter in our
lives is nothing more than an illusion. We are part of something much bigger that
contains and unite us. We are consciousness
observing itself. As individuals we experience our life through our unique
perspective which gives us the feeling and illusion of separation but if we
zoom out we can reach that level of perception where it becomes obvious that we
are all part of the same source like the shatters of light on the small scale
or light itself on the big scale.
The Source is us and we are the Source…
On the individual level we are looking at and experience ourselves the same way as we – consciousness – are doing the same thing on a much greater, perhaps the ultimate level. That skin cell was doing that too, experiencing himself as a cell and on a greater level experiencing himself as the whole body.
As above so below…
When
we get to the point in our Spiritual
Awakening where we are able to see, understand and most importantly
experience this heightened level of existence and oneness then this transforms
us into a completely different being.
That
is where the real journey begins.
